This 3 days 2 nights trek to Chopta covers Tungnath — the world's highest Shiva temple at 3,680m — and the Chandrashila summit beyond it, making it one of the most accessible high-altitude treks from Delhi NCR for a short weekend.
The trip begins with an overnight drive from Delhi, with a stop at Devprayag to watch the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers merge, arriving at Chopta by late morning. After a light acclimatisation day amid the region's dense bugyal meadows and snow-lined ridges, the main trek day covers a 5 km climb to Tungnath, a Panch Kedar shrine with a genuinely commanding Himalayan panorama, before continuing on to Chandrashila Peak for views of the Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Kedarnath ranges. The final morning adds a second, shorter trek to Deoria Tal — an alpine lake near Sari village that mirrors the Chaukhamba peaks on clear days — before the overnight drive back to Delhi.
The package includes round-trip Tempo Traveller travel from Delhi, 2 nights of accommodation in Chopta, 5 meals through the trip, trek refreshments during both the Tungnath and Deoria Tal treks, and a dedicated trip captain throughout.

Board the Tempo Traveller from Delhi in the evening. The overnight drive takes you through the Garhwal hills, with a brief halt at Devprayag to watch the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers meet. Arrive at Chopta by late morning.

Did this trek with two friends and it was hands down the best short trip from Delhi. Chandrashila sunrise was worth every step. Camp stay in Chopta was cosy and food was really good.
First time trekking and I was nervous, but the trip captain was super patient and helpful throughout. Tungnath temple atmosphere is something else entirely — very peaceful and moving.
3 days felt like a full detox. Deoria Tal on the last morning with the Chaukhamba reflection was stunning. Overnight travel is tiring but totally worth it. Would do this again in winter for snow.
