Leh Ladakh — High Altitude Bike Adventure

Leh, Ladakh Ladakh 4.9 (180 reviews)

About This Package

This bike expedition covers Ladakh's classic high-altitude circuit — Khardung La, Nubra Valley, and Pangong Tso — over 6 days 5 nights from Leh, with a 7 days 6 nights extension available that pushes on to Umling La, the world's highest motorable pass. For NCR riders, it's a well-paced introduction to high-altitude riding, with a genuine acclimatisation day built in before the climbs begin.

After a rest day in Leh to adjust to the altitude, the ride covers the city's landmark sights — Shanti Stupa, the Magnetic Hill optical illusion, and the Indus-Zanskar confluence at Sangam Point — before the climb to Khardung La at 5,359m. The descent into Nubra Valley brings riders to Diskit Monastery's towering Maitreya Buddha and the Bactrian camels roaming Hunder's sand dunes against a backdrop of Karakoram peaks. From there, the route follows the Shyok River to Pangong Tso, where a lakeside campsite offers some of the clearest night skies in the country, before returning to Leh via Chang La Pass. Riders on the 7-day extension continue south through Rezang La to remote Hanle, then push to Umling La at 19,024 feet — a genuine milestone very few riders ever claim.

The package includes hotel and camp accommodation, 10 meals through the trip, all road transfers within the Leh circuit, shared airport pickup and drop, an oxygen cylinder carried 24x7 in the support vehicle, all inner line permits, driver charges and toll fees, and an expert Trip Captain accompanying the group throughout.

Pack & Go is a Gurugram-based travel agency specialising in planned, well-supported bike expeditions for NCR riders. Our team manages permits, altitude safety, and mechanical logistics, so the trip stays focused on the ride itself.

This expedition suits both first-time high-altitude riders and experienced ones looking to add the Umling La extension. Day 1 is treated as a genuine rest day — overexertion on arrival is the most common cause of altitude sickness above 3,500 metres. Reach out to our team to check current departure dates and bike availability.

Day 2: Leh Sightseeing — Shanti Stupa, Magnetic Hill & More

After breakfast, head out to discover Leh's most iconic landmarks. Stand at Shanti Stupa for a sweeping panoramic view over the city, then witness the famous optical illusion at Magnetic Hill where vehicles appear to roll uphill on their own. Stop at Gurudwara Pathar Sahib for a moment of quiet reverence, and watch the Indus and Zanskar rivers converge at Sangam Point. Wind down the evening exploring the Leh Market — pick up Tibetan handicrafts and grab a coffee at one of the local cafes.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass

An early start as you ride up and over Khardung La at 5,359 metres — a landmark high-altitude crossing worth every cold gust of wind. Descend into the wide, sun-drenched Nubra Valley and visit Diskit Monastery with its striking 106-foot Maitreya Buddha statue. Head further to the sand dunes of Hunder where double-humped Bactrian camels roam against a backdrop of snow-capped Karakoram peaks — an extraordinary desert-meets-mountain scene found nowhere else in India.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 4: Nubra to Pangong Tso via Shyok Valley

Follow the Shyok River through remote villages and dramatic rock formations on the long drive to Pangong Tso. The lake arrives suddenly — a vast expanse of shifting blues and turquoise at 4,350 metres that stretches 160 km into Tibet. Settle into your lakeside campsite, catch the last light on the water, and fall asleep under some of the clearest night skies you'll find anywhere in the country.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 5: Pangong to Leh via Chang La Pass

Rise early for the golden hour on the lake and have breakfast at the campsite before beginning the drive back to Leh. The route climbs over Chang La at 5,360 metres before passing through the historic towns of Thiksey and Shey. Arrive in Leh by evening with time to wander the local market one last time, hunt for last-minute souvenirs, and enjoy a well-earned dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 6: Departure from Leh — Until the Next Ride

A final breakfast, one last look at the mountains from your hotel window, then it is time to head to Leh Airport. Our team ensures you reach on time for your onward flight. Crossing Khardung La on a bike was something I had been putting off for years — finally did it and the whole experience was incredibly well managed. Permits, luggage, everything sorted without us lifting a finger. Waking up at the Pangong campsite with the lake right outside the tent is something I will not forget.

Priya Nandwani — 5 ★

First time at this altitude and I was honestly nervous, but the team really looked after everyone throughout. Having the oxygen cylinder in the car gave me a lot of reassurance. Nubra Valley was my personal highlight — the camel ride on those sand dunes with snow mountains all around felt completely unreal.

Amit Verma — 4 ★

Solid value for the price point. Meals were hearty, the Leh hotels were comfortable enough, and the itinerary covered all the major spots without feeling rushed. Chang La on the return from Pangong is a nice addition not everyone realises is on the route. Already planning to do the Umling La extension next season.
