For NCR travellers, it's a chance to experience genuine cold-desert terrain — rust-toned hills, ancient gompas, and settlements above 4,000 metres — with proper acclimatisation built into the itinerary from Day 1.
The trip begins with a deliberately light first day in Manali, letting the body adjust before the climb into Spiti. Day two crosses Kunzum Pass at 4,551m into the valley itself, with the landscape shifting from green hillside to barren, rust-coloured terrain along the way. From Kaza, the itinerary covers Key Monastery — the valley's largest, clinging to a hilltop at 4,166m — along with Kibber village and the Chicham Bridge, Asia's highest motorable bridge. A single day covers three extraordinary high-altitude villages: Langza, known for its giant Buddha statue and marine fossils from an ancient seabed; Hikkim, home to the world's highest post office; and Komic, one of the highest motorable villages on Earth. The trip closes at Chandratal Lake, a crescent-shaped glacial lake at 4,300m whose colour shifts through the day, before the return drive to Manali.

This Spiti package suits group travellers comfortable with basic high-altitude conditions — unpaved roads, cold nights, and limited mobile connectivity beyond Kaza. Arrive in Manali and check in to your hotel. This day is intentionally light — Manali sits at around 2,050 m and spending the first night here helps your body begin adjusting before the dramatic altitude gains ahead. Your Pack & Go trip leader meets the group for an acclimatisation briefing covering altitude sickness symptoms, hydration targets, and what to expect on the roads into Spiti. Early dinner and an early night is strongly recommended.

An early departure from Manali for the long drive to Kaza (approx. 8–9 hours). The route climbs through Rohtang Pass or the Atal Tunnel, then continues through Gramphoo and Batal before tackling the Kunzum Pass at 4,551 m — stop here for a moment of quiet and a cup of chai from the small dhaba. Descend into the Spiti Valley as the landscape turns increasingly barren and the colours shift to rust, grey, and beige. Arrive in Kaza and rest.

Spiti's most celebrated day out. Drive up to Key Monastery — the largest in the valley, clinging to a hilltop at 4,166 m with commanding views of the Spiti River snaking below. Continue to Kibber village and walk through its narrow stone lanes. End the afternoon at the Chicham Bridge — Asia's highest motorable bridge — where the gorge drops nearly 150 metres below your feet. Return to Kaza for dinner.

Three extraordinary villages in a single morning. Langza at 4,400 m is famous for its giant Buddha statue overlooking the valley and the marine fossils embedded in the hillside — remnants of a Tethys Sea that existed here 50 million years ago. Hikkim holds the world's highest post office (4,440 m) — post a letter home with its legendary high-altitude postmark. Komic, at around 4,587 m, is one of the highest motorable villages on Earth. Afternoons are free in Kaza to explore the local market.

An early start for the drive to Chandratal Lake at 4,300 m — the undisputed highlight of the trip for most travellers. The lake is shaped like a crescent moon and its colour shifts from jade green at the edges to a deep cobalt blue at the centre depending on the light. A short walk around the lake perimeter takes about 45 minutes and offers constantly changing reflections of the surrounding peaks. Drive back towards Manali via Kunzum Pass, staying overnight near Chatru or Chandra.

Morning drive back to Manali through the Atal Tunnel or Rohtang Pass (subject to conditions), arriving by early to mid afternoon. The group disbands at Manali bus stand or a central drop point. Your trip leader wraps up with a final debrief — and likely a group photo before everyone goes their separate ways.

Spiti was on my list for four years and this trip finally delivered. Chandratal Lake was the moment of the trip — standing there at sunrise with the entire lake to ourselves felt almost unreal. The trip leader was experienced and very calm on the tough road sections, which made a big difference. Cannot recommend this enough.
I was the only solo woman in the group and felt completely comfortable throughout. The group bonded really quickly — by day three we felt like old friends. Hikkim post office was such a unique experience, I posted cards to my parents and they were thrilled. Key Monastery at golden hour is something I keep thinking about.
Brilliant trip but be mentally prepared for the roads — the stretch from Kunzum Pass to Kaza is genuinely rough and slow. If you go in expecting comfort you'll be disappointed, but if you go in for the raw experience of it all, you'll love every minute. The village circuit on Day 4 — Langza, Hikkim, Komic — was my personal favourite. Fossils right there in the hillside — wild.
